Travel: Montego Bay, Jamaica

Accommodations and AmenitiesI traveled to Montego Bay, Jamaica a few months ago for my honeymoon and had the best time! It was my first time traveling out of the country and I’m already eager to book our next trip! We spent a week of resting and relaxing at the all-inclusive Zoëtry Wellness and Spa Resort. Zoëtry is a new boutique resort that’s been open just over a year. Our first day there was actually the day of their official grand opening, which was nice because they greeted us with complimentary gifts.I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Jamaica. The first thing that greeted me was the heat and humidity. It was different from what I’ve experienced living in North Carolina. It was so hot, so much to the point that I didn’t even bother putting on makeup the entire trip because it would have just melted off.Our stay at the Zoëtry Resort was a pleasant one. Everybody was nice and very accommodating. The entire place was beautiful. Zoëtry offers different suites to choose from. We chose the junior suite with the tropical view. Although it was the smallest of all the options, it offered everything we needed to ensure a comfortable stay. A few of the amenities that we enjoyed were the butler service, room service/in-suite dining (we ordered food to the room every day) and maid service, among others.FoodWe ate some of the best gourmet food (shrimp, steak, chicken, lobster, etc.) at the Canoa and Coyoba restaurants. These restaurants also had live entertainment to include singers and a saxophonist. We also enjoyed the best jerk chicken, jerk pork and jerk fish at Jerky Jo’s, which was right along the beach. Each day, we walked around the resort exploring and taking time to relax while looking at the beautiful ocean. While doing this, we sipped on some of the best strawberry daiquiris’ I’ve ever had!Wellness and SpaAlthough it looked really nice, we did not use the fitness center (it was just too hot), nor did we take advantage of the spa services. I heard the massages were amazing and I really wanted to use the complimentary massage we were given, but unfortunately I didn’t schedule in time. ☹ExcursionDuring our stay in Jamaica, we took one day to leave the resort and explore more of the area. We booked an excursion to Dunn’s River Falls in Ocho Rios. It was an all day affair. Traveling by bus, while picking up tourists from other resorts, our tour guide shared information about the history of the area. When we arrived in Ocho Rios, we had lunch, which consisted of some of the best authentic Jamaican food- Jerk chicken, rice and cabbage. It was so good! We took a boat to the falls, but before we got there, we stopped in the middle of the ocean for snorkeling. After that, we arrived at our destination. Dunn’s River Falls extends more than 600 feet and is the most popular tourist attraction in Jamaica. My husband and I climbed the entire thing. The experience was incredible. After our time at the falls, we boarded the boat and headed back to the area where our buses would pick us up. En route, we enjoyed music and dancing, while dining on Jamaican beef patties and drinks. The patties were very tasty! Upon arrival at the docking area, we bought a few souvenirs from a local gift shop before getting on the bus to head back to the resort.Recommend Jamaica? Our experience in Jamaica was one that I will forever remember. If you’ve never been to Jamaica, I’d definitely recommend it. The food is great, the weather is nice and the people are like family. I would also recommend the Zoëtry Wellness Resort and Spa. Although it’s small and intimate, it is the perfect place to come with your significant other for a honeymoon or anniversary trip.Have you been to Jamaica before?
