2 Year Sisterlocks Update

July 8th made 2 years since I got sisterlocks. As I’ve mentioned several times before, choosing sisterlocks is the best hair decision I’ve made, besides going natural. There is nothing like true hair freedom.

My hair care regimen consists of seeing my loctician every six weeks, where I receive a wash and retie. In between appointments, I wash and style my hair biweekly (weekly when I have a rigorous workout schedule). I’m just now finishing up the last of my sisterlocks shampoo and will begin exploring other shampoos to cleanse and moisturize my hair. My loctician recommended Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap and Design Essentials shampoo, so I will see how I like them. I haven’t really done many styles with my hair, as I like to keep the tension at a minimum. I’ll usually wear it straight, in a twist out or twist and curl, which is my favorite. Now that I have a little more length, I will experiment a bit more.

To this day, I’ve never counted my locks, so I don’t have an exact lock count. I recognize that lock count is important to some, but not so much for me. I’ve had maybe 3 locks to thin out in the middle along my hairline, so a portion of those locks were lost. When I went in for my initial consultation, I mentioned to my loctician that I’m tender headed, and she stated that typically with locks you become more tender headed because your hair is not being manipulated as much as when you had loose hair, thus, our scalp gets used to not being touched as much. She was right. Lately I’ve experienced some discomfort during reties, but only in the crown and nape area. Those areas were pain points before I got sisterlocks, but they seem even more sensitive now. I plan to use a scalp massager on a weekly basis, as to get the blood circulating and get my scalp used to being manipulated in those areas.

Nothing beats getting up every morning, fluffing my hair and going on with my day. With sisterlocks, every day is truly a good hair day, and I love that for me! And no, I do not miss my loose natural hair one bit. My hair is flourishing with sisterlocks, and I don’t see myself going back anytime soon, or ever. I’m constantly getting questions about my hair, and the compliments are always appreciated. My sisterlocks journey has been so seamless, which I think is what inspired my sisters to join the sisterlocks community.

Have you considered sisterlocks or micorlocks? What’s preventing you from taking the leap?
