Quarantined Away From My Husband

Covid-19 has impacted the lives of everyone around the world in various ways. It seemed like all of a sudden schools were closing, sports activities were put on hold, graduations were cancelled and many other things were put at a stand still. What’s most disheartening is the fact that many have contracted the virus and lots have lost their lives. It’s so unfortunate.Since March, many in my state of NC began a quarantine period that some of us are still experiencing. During that time is when things began to get serious and we began to learn the severity of the virus. Only family and close friends know this, but for a portion of March and April, I was quarantined away from my husband. It happened so abruptly. I won’t go into much detail, but parts of our family had to be separated because unknowingly, some of us were around people who had been exposed to the virus. At the time, I was in the 3rd trimester of my pregnancy and considered high risk (before Covid-19). When the virus came, I was at a greater risk.In addition, my husband who works in the fitness industry and sees many clients on a daily basis, was still going to work (before the state mandated closures). Since he was working in an environment that has a high probability of exposure, I was at risk again by being in the same house as him. It was recommended that we quarantine for 14 days. When I heard the news, I was devastated. I knew it meant us being apart for a couple weeks, but at that time in my pregnancy and with everything going on, I needed the in-person support of my husband. Yes, I was able to talk to him and Face Time daily, but not being able to be in the same vicinity as him was very difficult. Sometimes you don’t realize how much of a blessing it is to be able to spend time with someone physically, until you can’t. I’m so grateful though, that we were able to reunite after that time apart and I realize that sadly, so many people in similar situations were not. We actually reunited after 15 days separated (he was required to stop reporting to work as to not expose himself to something that could adversely impact me when it was time for me to come back to our house). I was also happy to be reunited with my mom, who I had not seen in person in what seemed like forever. This time in quarantine allowed me to reflect. I was able to spend a lot of time with my dad. We were quarantined together for two weeks and were together an additional week before this time when my mom was out of town. I’ll always remember the time we were able to share with each other watching movies, eating take out and hanging out around the house. Another thing I often think about regarding this period is the convenience of technology. It was truly a blessing, as we were able to keep in touch with the family throughout the day to see what everybody was up to. Most importantly, I’m thankful to God for bringing all of us out of that situation safely, healthy and alive…and He continues to keep us! I pray that during this time you are well too!
