Random Facts About Me
1. I’m a two-time graduate of the #1 HBCU, North Carolina A&T State University. If you’ve never heard of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NC A&T), you’ve definitely been hiding under a rock! I’m proud to have earned my B.S. and M.S degrees from the #1 HBCU in the country. Aggies excel in everything from academics to sports. We even have the greatest homecoming on earth, also known as GHOE.2. I have a black belt in Japanese Goju Ryu Karate.I’ve been involved in karate for as long as I can remember. My parents first learned karate in college at A&T, and they continued for years, advancing through the ranks and ultimately became instructors. My sisters and I, cousins, aunts and uncles were very involved off and on over the years. In my last couple years of undergrad, I got back into karate and eventually earned my black belt. I went on to assist with instruction, and later became the head instructor. In 2015 I “retired” from teaching karate. Karate has been such a big part of my life. Although I no longer teach, I still do some advising every now and then.3. I took modern dance as a child and also as an adult.Your girl has a few moves. I learned modern dance as a child. In high school, I danced and twirled the flag in the marching band. Years later as an adult, I went back to modern dance, with the same dance company that I began with as a young girl. Dance taught me the art of grace, balance and showmanship.4. I played the clarinet for 10 years and also taught myself to play the flute.I love music. I picked up my first instrument, the clarinet, in the 4th grade. I played throughout middle school, making All County Band two years in a row. Since I loved the clarinet so much, I wanted to challenge myself, so I learned how to play the flute. I continued in high school playing the clarinet in the Wind Ensemble. I did not take any music courses in college. Looking back on it, I wish I would have. I practiced my clarinet and flute a few times freshman year, but haven’t picked up either since then. I can’t believe it’s been that long! I honestly don’t even know if I remember how to read music or play my instruments anymore. Perhaps one day I’ll give it a try.5. I was always quiet and shy as a young girl. I still am to this day.My parents always told me that when I was a baby, I hardly ever cried. The only time you’d hear from me was when I was hungry or needed to be changed. It’s amazing how your persona as a child can continue on throughout adulthood. Although I’m still quiet, shy and sometimes reserved, it’s not nearly like it used to be. Hang around me long enough and you’ll see me come out of my shell more.6. I’m the youngest of 3 girls.I have two older sisters. We’re all two years apart in age. Being the youngest in the family has had its benefits and challenges. One thing that I think is cool about us as sisters is that we got married in order by age. As it relates to our weddings, a few other things we have in common is that we all chose purple and silver as our wedding colors and selected Jamaica as our honeymoon spot. I think it’s also neat that we married men who are named after their fathers. How ironic?I hope you enjoyed learning a little bit more about me. Tell me something about yourself in the comments below?
