How to Wash Sisterlocks- Tutorial featuring Donna’s Recipe

I just hit the 2.5 year mark with Sisterlocks, so I figured it’s the perfect time to try some new products for wash day. I’m using the Sweet Potato Pie Extra Creamy Moisturizing Shampoo by Donna’s Recipe. This shampoo uses all natural ingredients to include sweet potato, cinnamon, vanilla, aloe vera, vitamin e and shea butter. It is designed to hydrate, moisturize, remove product buildup and promote healthy hair growth.

The shampoo has a smooth, yet creamy consistency, as well as a subtle sweet potato pie scent. Because it’s thick and creamy, and I’m used to using shampoo that’s not as thick, I decided to apply a little bit at a time, focusing on cleansing my scalp. I was able to get a good lather, and began rinsing once I felt my hair and scalp were thoroughly cleansed. One thing I like about this shampoo is that it doesn’t leave any type of residue in my Sisterlocks, which is a top priority for me when using new products. There’s nothing worse than washing and styling your hair, only to learn that you can see product residue everywhere. Not only is my hair and scalp clean, but it feels moisturized and soft.

I started the styling process by separating my hair into sections to create small to medium sized twists all over. At the last minute, I decided I wanted curls, so I rolled my hair using 3 different size rods. I sat under the dryer for about an hour, then let my hair finish air drying overnight.

Once I took my rods down, I applied the Strength Hair Oil to my scalp. This product contains an array of oils and powders designed to stimulate the hair follicles. What I enjoy about it is that it’s lightweight and feels great on my scalp. Although it’s made with several oils, the one that sticks out the most as far as scent is the tea tree oil. It’s strong but not overpowering. After unraveling my twists, I’m left with soft and bouncy curls that I love. Consider using these products by Donna’s Recipe the next time you wash your hair.
