What to Do and Eat in Nashville, TN
Every year I look forward to our annual cousins trip. It seems to always come when I need it most. It’s the perfect opportunity for me to get some time away from work and home responsibilities, while enjoying quality time with my sisters and cousins. We all wear many hats, so to have dedicated time where we can unplug from our busy lives is always a joy. For this year’s trip, we visited Nashville, TN. Often referred to as the “Music City”, Nashville is home to many popular musicians including the world famous “Fisk Jubilee Singers”. It’s also known for its famous dish- hot chicken, Broadway- the centerpiece of Nashville’s nightlife and much more.
Shopping
The Mall at GreenHills
We went shopping at GreenHills mall. They had your typical mall stores, as well as a few luxury stores like David Yurman, Louis Vuitton and others. I was able to try on a few items from my wish list, which is always fun.7/10
The Luxury Label
The Luxury Label Nashville is a luxury consignment store located right across the parking lot from the mall. The owner has curated a fabulous collection of luxury clothing, bags, jewelry, accessories and shoes. There are vintage and newer pieces from brands such as Goyard, Chanel, Gucci, Cartier and more. The girls enjoyed shopping there so much that we had to run it back another time before we headed home.10/10
National Museum of African American Music
I love a great museum, and the National Museum of African American Music did not disappoint. Any time I can read, hear and learn more about the rich history of my people, is a blessing. The museum was a wonderful experience filled with six interactive galleries to include spirituals, blues, jazz, gospel, R&B and hip-hop. Each gallery showcases artifacts and memorabilia distinct to the many music genres and shares a different perspective on the music and history of African Americans.10/10
Food/Entertainment
The Hampton Social
The Hampton Social is the perfect brunch spot. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful, and a wonderful place for fun photo ops with the girls. We enjoyed the short ribs, salad, pizza, oysters, drinks and more! Everything was delicious.9/10
Slim & Husky’s
We went to the Gulch to sightsee and check out a few shops. The Gulch is obviously a popular area because there were tons of people in the area. While we waited for our Ubers, we ordered pizza from Slim & Husky’s. The pizza was so good we grabbed some in the airport on our way home too. I was excited to learn that Slim & Husky’s is a black owned business. I always like to make support black owned, women owned and small businesses.10/10
The Gumbo Bros
We decided to order food from the Gumbo Bros and enjoy a night in. I got the Gulf Shrimp Basket, which was tasty.7/10
Supper Club
The Supper Club is another great option for brunch. Our table was full of some of everything including the soul roll (mac & cheese, yams and collard greens in an egg roll), fish and grits, chicken and waffles, fried catfish, pancakes and drinks galore. Everything was delicious!10/10
Sambuca Nashville
Sambuca is a wonderful option if you want to enjoy dinner and great entertainment. We ordered all the goodies- drinks, appetizers, entrees and dessert. I’m not much of a drinker, but my sister had our waiter make me a drink that was amazing. Oh, and I can’t forget the shrimp linguini that was pure perfection. The live music didn’t disappoint either. We had the privilege of hearing Jannelle Means and her wonderful band. She sang some of the hits from Prince, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, the Isley Brothers, Patti LaBelle and more. She is a phenomenal performer and had an awesome show.10/10++
