What to Eat in San Juan, Puerto Rico

Last year we took a girls trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico. The trip started off great, but ended on a sour note. Long story short, we got stranded there with Hurricane Fiona. Thankfully, we made it back safely after several delayed and cancelled flights. Our trip definitely turned into survival of the fittest. There is one thing, however, that I can highlight that’s good that came out of the trip, and it’s the food!As soon as we landed and dropped off our bags at the hotel, we walked to Cayo Caribe Condado. This restaurant specializes in Caribbean, Latin, Bar, Seafood and Puerto Rican food. I ordered the shrimp tacos with a side of rice and beans. The portion sizes were so huge I couldn’t even finish everything, and the prices are reasonable. Everything was absolutely delicious! The tacos were loaded with fried shrimp, cole slaw and some type of sauce. I also tried the beef empanada, which was also tasty. I’d rank this restaurant a 10 out of 10.That evening we had dinner at Social. It’s a restaurant inside of a hotel. The views were nice, as we ate outside overlooking the ocean. I enjoyed a chicken and mashed potatoes dish. It was perfectly seasoned and the chicken was so tender. The portion size was plentiful, and was definitely worth it for the price. I’ve had tons of different chicken dinners in my lifetime, but I must say that this one was the absolute best! I would consider myself a picky eater, but this dish was top tier. I finished it all. I wasn’t leaving anything on that plate. My sisters and cousin ordered the lamb/beef, which they enjoyed. The Social is the perfect restaurant to go to with your significant other, or for a fancy dinner with friends. I’d rank this place a 10 out of 10 +++.We went to Old San Juan and had dinner at Deaverdura. I ordered the fried chicken dish with salad, rice and beans. It was flavorful and filling. Some of the chicken was fried just a little too hard, but besides that, it was tasty. I’d recommend this restaurant as a nice casual lunch or dinner option. I give it an 8 out of 10.It’s a bummer that we didn’t get to experience all we hoped to because of Hurricane Fiona, but I’m glad we didn’t miss out on trying some great places to eat. Although we went to more places than this, these three were my top choices. If there’s one thing Puerto Rico is known for, it has to be the delicious food.
