What to Wear to a Bridal Fitting
It’s the holiday season, which means that a lot of people will be getting engaged! In fact, I already have a few friends on Facebook that got engaged over the Thanksgiving weekend, so I figured it would be a great time to write another wedding post.Today’s post is all about what items you need to bring when trying on wedding gowns and also for the fittings you will have once you have decided on a dress. These items are also helpful for any other ladies participating in a wedding, to include bridesmaids, hostesses, mothers, etc.1. UndergarmentsUndergarments are the most important items to bring to a bridal fitting, as they are the foundation of your outfit. These items give you the proper support, coverage, smoothness and firmness that you may need. A few great undergarments that you may want to consider are bras (strapless, backless, convertible, etc.), a bustier, body suits, slimming shorts, among many others. You may also want to think about things like bra extenders, converters, clips, gel petals and push up pads. Depending on the style of your gown, you may or may not need all those things.Fortunately for me, my gown had a corset/bustier built inside that offered great support, so I didn’t need to wear a bra. I did, however, wear nude panties and a nude smoothing short. The smoothing shorts added light support and helped to smooth me out and keep things in place. I actually have 3 pairs of the shorts (2 black, 1 nude) and wear them under all skirts, dresses, and pants that may be a little thin, to ensure I have the proper coverage.When going to try on dresses for the first time, I’d recommend bringing a strapless bra and a girdle. Once you decide on the style of dress you will wear, you can determine if you need additional items. ShoesWhen you’ve selected a gown and start the fitting process with your tailor or seamstress, it’s important to bring the shoes that you will wear on your special day. If you’re on the shorter side like me, you may need your dress hemmed, but of course it will depend on the length of your gown as well as the height of the heel you’re wearing. I’d also recommend bringing other shoes that you may change into after the ceremony. I wore heels for my ceremony and sneakers for the reception. Bringing both pairs of shoes to my fitting helped the seamstress determine a nice length for my dress, ensuring it would look right with both pairs of shoes.3. AccessoriesAfter you’ve selected a gown, you should definitely have an idea of what accessories you’d like to wear on your wedding day. There are plenty of options of veils, earrings, necklaces, headpieces, bracelets, and more, so choose what is best for you.
