The Importance of Positive Affirmations
I believe it’s important to start each day with something positive. That can be done in various ways; reading your bible, listening to uplifting music, reading a great devotional, listening to a podcast or even reading and/or speaking positive affirmations in the morning and throughout the day. At different times, I do all of these things, but today I want to talk about the importance of speaking positive affirmations. With all that’s going on in our personal lives and in the world, it’s imperative to speak great things over our lives in the mornings to set the tone for the day and to also meditate on these things throughout each day. Life’s challenges can sometimes hit you hard, and when those trying times come (because they will), it’s good to already be in the practice of speaking great things over your life. I don’t know about you, but it sometimes seems like there is “something” at work at least a few times a month. In those times I have to say things to myself like “I will not let anyone or anything steal my joy or my peace”. Doing so helps me to remain calm when things seem or appear chaotic. In addition to speaking positive affirmations for ourselves, it’s also good to develop the habit of speaking them with our loved ones and for the benefit of others.A few months ago, my husband and I started reading the “Our Best Life Together” devotional by Joel and Victoria Osteen. When we get in bed each night, we read one devotional. Each one ends with an affirmation that begins with “we declare”. After we read it, we both share our thoughts on the particular topic and how it relates to what’s going on in our lives, in addition to the things we want for ourselves individually and as a couple.Taking the time to listen to how the other person feels about a certain subject and to get their viewpoint on it allows us to learn more about each other as newlyweds, and gives a new perspective other than our own. Furthermore, it allows us to discover and support the goals and ideas we have for each other and ourselves. Discussing these things helps us to remain encouraged regarding certain situations and accountable to certain things. It feels good knowing that we have a life partner and personal cheerleader in each other and that we can support one another by speaking positive affirmations together, for ourselves and for each other.Words have power. Take the time to speak positivity daily for the benefit of yourself and your friends and loved ones. What are you affirming today? Let me know in the comments below!
