Flowers are one of the most expensive items you can spend money on when it comes to planning a wedding. Yes, they are beautiful, but the reality is that they don’t last beyond a few days. Thus, it just doesn’t make sense to spend a ton of money on them if you don’t have to. Now if you’ve got it like that and can afford to splurge on tons of flowers, by all means, do you! However, this particular post is for those who don’t want to break the bank. Select a venue that already has flowers.When I decided to get married at The Colonnade at Revolution Mill, I chose that particular space because it’s unique, beautiful and it gave me the 2-in-1 look (the courtyard for the ceremony and the event space for the reception). An added benefit of selecting that particular venue is that there are a lot of beautiful flowers and greenery in the courtyard. So much so, that I didn’t have to add any type of floral décor to the ceremony space. That saved me a good amount of money. I did add a sheer drape to the columns there, but that was pretty much it besides the white garden chairs and the sand ceremony items on the pub table.If you are a bride-to-be who is getting married in the spring, summer and/or early fall and you love flowers, consider choosing a venue that has a beautiful outside space with lots of “free flowers” you can benefit from.2. Shop wholesale- Costco and Sam’s ClubAnother way I was able to save money on my wedding day is by avoiding purchasing from flower shops and buying wholesale. You heard that right! All of my floral décor came from Sam’s Club and Costco. We ordered everything we needed a couple weeks before the wedding, and it all arrived two days before the big day.If you go to the websites for these stores, you’ll see that they have a wonderful floral department with a lot of variety. These stores offer different wedding collections based on color and the number of pieces needed. I love white roses, so I chose the 43 Piece White Rose Collection from Sam’s Club, which was just over $1,000. The collection included my bridal bouquet (which consisted of 35 beautiful white roses), 6 bridesmaids bouquets, 1 throwaway bouquet, 10 centerpieces, 12 boutonnieres’, 12 corsages, 4 boxes of petals and 1 clipper. This was more than enough for the wedding party, parents and other special guests. From Costco we ordered more flowers, baby’s breath and greenery for the other centerpieces.Purchasing wholesale was so beneficial and saved at least $2,000. Had I ordered from a flower shop, the price would have been double what was paid at Costco and Sam’s Club. If you decide to purchase flowers wholesale, make sure you have someone designated to be in charge of putting centerpieces together and keeping the flowers in water.
