Travel: A Weekend in Charlotte, NC
Back in May my fiancé surprised me with a quick weekend getaway to Charlotte, NC for my birthday. We had a great time! I hadn’t been to Charlotte in a little over a year, so I was excited to have some fun in the Queen City.Accommodations We stayed at the Marriot Hotel-Southpark. I’d never stayed at this particular hotel before, but heard great things from my sisters who have both stayed there. The hotel was recently renovated and it was absolutely gorgeous! The rooms had a modern design and there was hard wood flooring throughout. I don’t think I’ve ever stayed in a hotel room with hard wood floors, but I definitely appreciated it. The rooms’ aesthetic was clean, crisp and contemporary. In addition to the king sized bed and flat screen TV, there was a seating area with a chaise lounge and a desk area. The bathroom was just as beautiful as the room! I loved the size of the sink area. It was big enough for me to spread out my toiletries and makeup. The mirror was huge and had the best lighting around it…a bloggers dream and perfect for selfies! The floors and shower were adorned with the most beautiful marble. The overall color tone was white and gray, giving the atmosphere a nice refreshing feel.Overall, our stay at the Marriot at Southpark was a pleasant one! We will definitely be back. Next time, I hope to be able to stay longer so that I can get a chance to take a dip in the pool, check out the fitness center and eat in the dining/bar area.ShoppingIf you know me well, you know I love to shop, so I was very excited that the hotel was extremely close to Southpark Mall. Southpark is my favorite mall to shop at in Charlotte. It has the more common mall stores such as Old Navy, H&M, and Macy’s, and it also has high-end stores like Tiffany & Co., Burberry and Louis Vuitton. We ended up going to the mall twice that weekend and found some great things.FoodThe night of my birthday we had dinner at Maggiano’s. I love Italian food so I was excited about ordering my favorite Chicken Parmesan dish. It was so delicious! The waitress brought out a chocolate treat for me in celebration of my birthday. It was such a sweet gesture and I really enjoyed it.We also ate at a soul food restaurant called Nana’s. It was my first time trying out this restaurant. My fiancé Eric has been several times. He often does training for work in Charlotte, and every time he’s in the Queen City, he loves to stop and get some good soul food. I enjoyed the fried chicken, cornbread, green beans and candied yams while Eric dined on the fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, yams and cornbread. Overall, our trip to Charlotte was filled with good food, good shopping and a great hotel stay!
